Ukrainian writer, journalist, and animator Nadiia Kyrei introduces a unique cultural-humanitarian initiative: the free multilingual mobile app “Who stole my anger?”. The interactive fairytale helps children understand emotions — especially anger — while learning kindness, and empathy.
What makes the Ukrainian version special is its theatrical performance style: the story is voiced by a multi-actor cast, including Crimean Tatar actor and director Akhtem Seitablaiev. A Crimean Tatar version of the fairy tale is also planned, emphasizing Ukraine’s cultural inclusivity.
The fairytale uses familiar archetypes to talk about emotions. One of its central figures is Baba Yaga, a legendary character of European mythology, making the story resonate across cultures.
Key features of the app:
- always 100% free – no ads, no hidden costs,
- professional multilingual voice acting,
- Ukrainian version with multi-voice cast,
- print-and-color illustrations,
- an interactive game with story characters.
The project is a result of collaboration with more than 50 international volunteers — translators, actors, psychologists, editors, illustrators, and animators. The app already includes over 10 languages, with more to come.
The initiative has been supported by Radio France and different European institutes.
“It was important for me that the first language of this project was Ukrainian – brought to life by outstanding actors who gave the story its heart. But what makes it truly special is that together, internationally, we can give children not only many languages but also one common language – the language of kindness,”
— says Nadiia Kyrei, author and project director.
In the future, more fairy tales will be added to the app.
